How to Make Our Whisky Highball
History of the Whisky Highball Cocktail
The Whisky Highball cocktail is a classic tipple that's been around for over a century. It's a simple yet sophisticated drink that's perfect for a cosy night in or a special dinner party with family and friends. The origins of the Highball can be traced back to Scotland, where it was a popular drink among railway workers. The name "highball" is said to have come from the practice of signalling for service on a train by raising a ball on a pole.
What Does the Whisky Highball Taste Like?
The Highball is all about balancing a few select ingredients which is why using the right whisky is essential. Hankey Bannister Original is that whisky. Our smooth blend is the perfect balance of fruit, spices and caramel, and it is these subtle notes that complement the bubbles and citrus in the Highball making this simple drink both deliciously crisp and the backbone of more complex cocktails.
Add your own flourish
There are lots of ways to add your own flourish to a Whisky Highball, so let your imagination run wild and try adding your favourite flavours by changing:
- Mixer - soda water can be swapped for fruit juice, a flavoured seltzer or an alcoholic drink like prosecco
