How to Make Our Spritz
History of the Spritz Cocktail
The Spritz Cocktail is the epitome of carefree and easy-going, making it the perfect drink for those seeking a leisurely escape from the mundane. A classic Italian aperitif that has been enjoyed for over 150 years, the original Spritz was made with just Prosecco, Aperol, and soda water. However, over time, other variations were created, including the Whisky Spritz, which was introduced in the mid-19th century. Whisky was substituted for Aperol in the classic recipe, adding a touch of sophistication and complexity to the drink. The Whisky Spritz quickly became a popular choice for after-dinner drinks and has since evolved into a staple in Italian bars and cafes.
What does a Spritz taste like?
A tantalising blend of flavours. The Hankey Bannister Original, with its ground spice and caramel notes, fuses with the bright and bitter orange taste of Aperol and the sweetness of the sugar syrup. Adding Prosecco brings an effervescent sparkle and adds a touch of glamour making the drink the perfect party accompaniment. The orange and mint garnish provides a fresh and zesty contrast, balancing out the sweetness of the cocktail. With its bubbly and bright nature, the Spritz is a crowd-pleaser that's ideal for any occasion.
Add your own flourish
There are lots of ways to add your own flourish to a Spritz, so let your imagination run wild and try adding your favourite flavours by changing:
- Mixer - Prosecco can be swapped for soda water, fruit juice, a flavoured seltzer, cider, or champagne
- Liqueur – Aperol can be changed for its more bitter cousin Campari, or keeping it sweet you could add an additional flavoured liqueur such as apple or pear.
